Teams with most wins in IPL: In the seven seasons
that have been played in the Indian Premier League (IPL) we have had as
many as 11 teams. A few quit amid disputes, while other franchises were
either dissolved or taken over. And at the moment for the season 8 of
the IPL we have 8 participating teams to fight for the championship in
2015.
While a few came and were washed off, the major teams continue to
participate and extract the best out of their squads at the IPL. Here is
a move to list and rank the teams with most number of wins in IPL. 11. Kochi Tuskers Kerala (KTK) – 6
The shortest lived team in the history of the IPL is Kochi Tuskers
Kerala, they promised a lot at the start of the IPL 2011, but was down
in one. KTK had a decent squad but again assessing and judging a team
just for the performances in one season cannot give a fair idea of how
good or bad they were. In all they played 14 mandatory matches in the 4th season of the tournament and they could win only 6 of those and thus could not advance any further in the race.
10. Pune Warriors (PWI) – 12:
Subrata Roy Sahara bought the Pune Franchise in the Indian Premier
League to strengthen his grip over Indian cricket. After his team had
played a couple of seasons a tussle with the BCCI bosses and this big
man saw their journey come to an end. PWI in their 46 matches stay could
not achieve anything substantial and if there is something this team
will be truly remembered for is being at the receiving end when Chris
Gayle stormed 175* playing for the RCB. PWI could only win 12 matches in
the league. 9. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) – 15
As the organizers disapproved the existence of the DC, due to dues
between the management and the BCCI, the SRH team came into existence.
They have had a rather short stay in the league to be assessed. But
whatever cricket we have seen from the Sunrisers boys is quite
encouraging, it is just the difference of clicking the right balance and
they can force themselves better in the champions’ race. SRH has won 15
matches after having played 31, with one of it ending in a tie, their
win percentage is exactly 50. 8. Deccan Chargers (DC) – 29:
Deccan Chargers is a thing of past in the IPL, they could meet the
terms of the League for only 75 matches. DC found right players to take
suitable roles; Adam Gilchrist, Rohit Sharma and Andrew Symonds powered
this team which was under the underdog’s level to win the IPL. DC has
won 29 games in their IPL life and the win percentage is somewhere
around 38.66. Though these are not numbers to be proud of, but the
trophy they won in 2009 is surely something worth a memory. 7. Delhi Daredevils (DD) – 44:
Delhi Daredevils had players like David Warner, Aaron Finch, Virender
Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir in their top order and every season one was
forced to rate them as favorite at the start of every year of IPL. But
they could never strike a balance and combination in the XI that gave
them the decisive edge. DD has remained unbeaten, looked untouchable on
more than once in different seasons but fail to leave a mark when it
matters the most. DD has played 105 matches off which they have only
managed to win 44. 6. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) – 52:
RCB is that team in the IPL which has all it takes to win, they have
match winners in the team, a bench which looks brighter than most XIs,
an aggressive, young skipper, opener as explosive as Chris Gayle, names
like Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers in the middle order, what is missing
along with their name is the IPL champions status. They have always had
the arsenal but, all their guns have never fired when it matters the
most, RCB have been a part of the final match on multiple occasions but
have never cleared the final hurdle. They have won, 52 matches out of
108, win percentage of 49.53. 5. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) – 54:
If there is one team which has revived itself, turned the fortunes
from residing at the base of the table to the top it is the Kolkata
Knight Riders (KKR). The team owned by Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh
Khan (SRK) is now only the second team to have won the IPL trophy twice.
Gautam Gambhir’s team has won 53 matches from the 105 matches they have
been a part of with a win percentage of 52.38. 4. Rajasthan Royals (RR) – 54:
Rajasthan Royals right from the first season till today continue to
be the underdogs, they had a squad led and coached by Australian spin
wizard Shane Warne. Many thought the Jaipur based team will find it
difficult to leave a mark in the tournament; Warne and RR defeated all
odds and came out strong to win the first season of the tournament.
Though they have never won it again but continue to remain a competitive
unit even today. RR have won 54 matches in their IPL journey thus far. 3. Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) – 55:
This team from Punjab the Kings XI Punjab have always continued to be
among the prime contenders to win the IPL trophy but have never managed
to do so in the seven years. The closest they came to the dream was
last season but were beaten by KKR in the final. KXIP has featured in
106 matches in the Indian T20 league from which they have been
successful on 55 occasions, they have a win percentage of 52.35. 2. Mumbai Indians (MI) – 63:
The Mumbai based franchise MI owned by the Richest Man in India RIL
Chairman Mr. Mukesh Ambani was the franchise sold for the highest bid
price. MI had big players in their squad right from the start of the
IPL. They have had various skippers in iconic player – Sachin Tendulkar,
Harbhajan Singh, Ricky Ponting and Rohit Sharma. The team found the
leader and success they were looking for under the youngest captain they
have had Rohit. MI has won 63 matches in IPL out of 111 matches that
they have played. 1. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) – 69:
The CSK is not only the most consistent team in the IPL but one of
the top ranked teams globally. This team led by Indian skipper MS Dhoni
has time and again proved they know what it takes to come out every
season with similar intent and energy and to keep winning matches after
matches and trophies after trophies. They have 69 wins under their name
in the IPL from the total 115 that they have played. Along with that
they have won the title twice.
Top 5 Indian cricketers who can use the IPL to make a comeback to the national squad: By
know we all know how much weightage the Indian Premier League (IPL)
has, players who have done well here have always been rewarded with a
call into the national team. There are list of examples that can justify
why it is so important to perform well at the IPL and how rewarding it
can be. So like every season, there are a few players who are eyeing the
domestic T20 league as not just another tournament but a platform to
showcase they still have the competitiveness and fire inside to play for
the national team.
Here are the Top 5 Indian cricketers who can use the IPL to make a comeback to the national squad: 1. Irfan Pathan:
Irfan Pathan has been a surprise inclusion into the Chennai Super
Kings after being unsold in the first round of the auction. Irfan has
been eyeing the Indian team return and IPL will be the ideal platform to
prove his metal again. He has done this in the past when speculations
were doing the rounds that it would almost be impossible for the
southpaw to return to international cricket but he proved them wrong and
was included in the Indian team back in 2011. Irfan is one of the
strong contenders to make a comeback in the Indian team as he is capable
of performing both with the bat and ball. The opportunity has now come
for the younger Pathan as he has been picked in the team which is led by
the Indian captain, looking at the developments and form there is every
possibility of Irfan doing well for the side as he has been an
experienced campaigner having played 98 matches in the IPL. This is will
be a crucial tournament for Irfan and the last thing he would want to
do is to underperform at this mega tournament after a good Ranji Trophy
season. Pathan has the reputation of being a floater who can bat at
different positions and at the same time bowl at different stages of the
game which gives the captain a sense of flexibility. 2. Virender Sehwag:
Sehwag has been one of India’s finest openers’ and it has been more
than two years since he wore the blue jersey. Viru has last played for
the Indian cricket team back in 2013 against Australia. He has a past
wherein he was out of the Indian team and returned when nobody expected
to him to. Sehwag continues to have the zeal to play to for India again
and his recent performances at the domestic level clearly depict that.
He had done exceedingly well for the Delhi team and has now been a
significant player for Kings Xl Punjab. Sehwag is confident of an
International comeback and this IPL is the time to do it. Sanjay Bangar
who is the coach for the team has showered words of praise and stated
that Viru has been practicing extremely hard and has the hunger to make
his way back in to the Indian circuit. Virender Sehwag should be mindful
of the fact that the current Indian opening pair has been in good form
and for him to get a look in he has to play some extra ordinary cricket,
which he is easily capable of doing. 3. Yuvraj Singh:
Yuvi is another prominent cricketer who is dying to make a comeback
into the Indian team. He was not picked for CWC 15 which was quite a
debated topic but Yuvi has taken it into his stride. He was the most
expensive player in the recently held IPL auction. The south paw will
surely be a key player for the DD and will use this opportunity as his
chance to stage a comeback. Yuvraj has been in good form with the bat
and played in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where he has scored more than
100 runs with an average of 38.33. The intent is clearly visible and
it will not take long before Yuvraj gets going and make the cut into the
Indian team. 4. Gautam Gambhir:
Gautam Gambhir has led the KKR team to spectacular wins. He also had
memorable performances in the previous seasons but has failed to get
the attention of the selectors. Gautam has turned the fortunes of the
KKR team and performed well under pressure and got the team to positions
of dominance with the bat and made impressive bowing changes, while on
the field. Gauti who was one of the heroes of World Cup 2011, did not
find a place in the world cup 2015 team and will be eager to make a
comeback. He is known to very aggressive and has produced wonderful
starts for the Indian team top of the order in the past. The partnership
with his Delhi team Virender Sehwag was an unbeatable one and he would
be happy to return and do well for team India. 5. Robin Uthappa:
Robin is high on confidence as he had a solid Ranji Trophy, along
with the Karnataka team who successfully defended the Champions title
they won last year. He was the highest run scorer in the domestic
season. Robin will be waiting for the IPL to kick off as he missed the
opportunity to play for the Indian team as he was excluded from the
final 15 even after being named in the list of 30 probables for the
world cup. He has been in good touch with the bat and got the Karnataka
team off to a flier every time he went on to the field in the domestic
games. His hand eye coordination and timing will come in handy and is a
dangerous player once he gets going. Robin Uthappa will have to face
some tough competition to make it to the Indian team but he would not
want to give up and will be viewing IPL as a huge opportunity to get
into the Indian team.

Referred as Mr.Cricket in general, Hussey has had a brilliant IPL.
Played for Chennai and Mumbai mostly in opening role, Hussey scored 1900
runs at a good average of 40.42 in the 54 innings.
4 – MS Dhoni: 40.84
MS Dhoni is the only Indian to be in the Top 10 batsmen list with
highest averages in IPL. Given the position he plays in IPL, helped to
betray his average with the not outs. He scored 2614 runs in 99 innings
at an average of 40.84. 3 – Shaun Marsh: 43.84
Shaun Marsh might not have got many games to play in IPL despite of
been available for every possible season. However, every time he played
he proved his worst. He scored 1973 runs in just 51 innings at a
brilliant average of 43.84. 2 – Chris Gayle: 47.50
Gayle probably has been the most consistent performer in the IPL
since his comeback in 2011. He returned to IPL in 2011 in midway for
Royal Challengers Bangalore and had been in top run scorers list in
every season. He averaged 47.5 by scoring 2708 runs in 67 innings. 1 – David Miller: 48.10
The Killer from South Africa, David Miller joined IPL in 2012 for
Kings XI Punjab. Since his inception in IPL, he performed well every
possible time. He averaged 48.1, the highest in the IPL so far scoring
962 runs in 34 innings. 14 not outs in those 34 also a reason for the
good average.
12 Memorable and Signature Cricket shots: Cricket is
a visual sport like every other. The things that make a batsman
memorable is the style in which he bats. That’s something every young
fan emulates. Sachin’s stance, Ganguly’s back lift, Lara’s footwork
there is something unique and eye catching in every batsman who anyone
has seen in play. That special way of playing shots has been etched in
every fan’s; old or current mind.
Here we bring to you some of those particular shots that made the player memorable for us all.
(P.S: The list is not in any particular order)
1. Stepping out to spinner – Sourav Ganguly (India)
The Prince of Kolkata, Sourav Ganguly was a nightmare to any spinner
or slow medium pacer. While his off side play is well known to everyone,
he was more famous for his ability to hit the ball out of the ground.
The sight of him skipping down the ground to a spinner or a medium pacer
and lifting the ball out of the ground towards mid-wicket or the cow
corner is something etched in every fan’s mind.
2. Cover and off drive – Rahul Dravid (India)
The Wall used to make batting look easy. Dravid was the epitome of
gentlemanliness in the game of cricket. Never to scream, never to engage
in abuse and always kept the team’s interest above everything else. His
best shot was cover and off drive. Front leg stretched in the direction
of where the ball will go, bat coming at a perfect angle, perfect
timing and result is ball racing towards the mid-off or covers boundary
like a bullet.
3. Switch Hit – Kevin Pietersen (England)
A Modern great of the game, Kevin Pietersen has scored the most runs
for England in international cricket. Currently in exile due to his
issues with the England and Wales cricket board; he still evokes the
innovation and aggressiveness he bought with his debut in 2005. The shot
he made famous or rather invented was the switch hit; where he changed
the grip of his bat from right handed to left handed and changed his
stance into a left handed batsman to hit the bowler like one. This shot
led to controversy and the MCC and the ICC had to bring in a new law to
validate the shot.
4. Cover drive – Brian Lara (West Indies)
Brian Lara had the most attractive batting style in cricket. His high
back lift and the way he crouched before unwinding into the shot was a
sight for sore eyes. He used to watch the ball till last minute and
unwound at the last possible time to hit the ball with full force. The
bat used to generate tremendous bat speed from the back lift and the
swing gave the power to the ball.
5. Awesome Reserve Lap – Eoin Morgan (England)
Well there are no words to this shot from Eoin Morgan from England.
He just stands there, changes the grip on the bat for a reverse sweep
and scoops a full and fast ball from Ravi Rampaul for a six over third
man. Even English Captain Paul Collingwood cannot stop laughing at the
audacity of the shot. The bowler is too stunned to give any reaction,
while West Indies captain Chris Gayle just shrugs.
6. Reverse Sweeps – Glen Maxwell (Australia)
Glen
Maxwell, the newest big hitter on the block has perfected the reverse
sweep to the extent that now most of his shots go over the boundary.
Maxwell plays in one gear only and does not have a blocking mechanism.
He hits it out of the ground or gets out. Most often he gets it correct
and people get to enjoy the show.
7. Straight Drive – Sachin Tendulkar (India)
The little master had all the strokes in the book and could play all
of them beautifully. But the shot that he loved to play and looked like
the God of cricket was the straight drive. The fast bowler coming in at
full steam and letting go a fast one, while Sachin just plants his front
foot forward and brings down his 3 pund heavy bat down on the ball
meeting it in the sweet spot of the bat and sending it back near to the
umpire at the other end past the bowler and the non-striker.
The sight of him hitting that shot reminded everyone why the entire
cricket world including the players, fans, and coaches loved him,
respected him and feared his batting talent.
8. The Pull and hook shots – Ricky Ponting (Australia)
Former
Australian skipper and the player to score the second most runs in Test
cricket, Ricky Ponting was the master of pull and hook shots. He played
for Tasmania and was brought up playing his cricket on the bouncy pitch
at the Hobart and mastered the hook and pull in his early years. He
could play the shot of the front foot and the back foot off any bowler.
9. DilScoop – Tillakaratne Dilshan (Sri Lanka)
Tillakaratne
Dilshan invented a completely new and risky shot called Dil Scoop.
Dilshan goes on one knee to a full ball and laps it over his head behind
the wicket keeper for either a four or a six. The danger of the shot is
that if he misses it, he can also lose some of his teeth despite
wearing a helmet. Nonetheless, the shot is exciting and brings the much
needed fun in the game of cricket.
10. Upper cut – Rilee Rossouw (South Africa)
Rilee Russouw probably hit the shot of the on-going 2015 World Cup
against West Indies. The bowler bowled a short bouncer on the off stump
of Rossouw. Rossouw just gives himself some room, jumps in the air and
cuts the ball over the head of the third man fielder straight into the
crowd. The shot was hit while he was in mid-air and that gave this World
Cup the moment it was waiting for.
11. The shots of World Cup 2003 – Sachin Tendulkar and Virender Sehwag (India)
The high tension India Pakistan match in the 2003 World Cup gave us
these 2 shots from the two Indian openers Virender Sehwag and Sachin
Tendulkar. Both shots were hit off the fastest bowlers of their time
Shoaib Akhtar and Waqar Younis. These two shots are termed as the shots
of not only the 2003 World Cup, but are part of the highlight reel that
is shown in every cricket video and the most recognisable shots in world
of cricket.
12. The Helicopter – MS Dhoni (India)
MS Dhoni’s entry into the world of cricket has been a revelation of
sorts. He came in sporting long hair, a give-a-damn attitude and a game
that begged a different category. He was brash and arrogant in his
batting style, bludgeoning sixes and fours with brute power and force
behind them He showed his intentions against Sri Lanka in ODI making
183* with 10 sixes, all of them huge. He also invented a new shot,
hitting yorkers out of the ground with a whirl of bat to end the shot to
give power to the shot. The commentators dubbed it the ‘Helicopter
Shot’ and it has been a staple of his arsenal of shots for making runs
against quick bowlers.
Cricket has always been a gentlemen’s game. It has always been
sophisticated and jovial at every moment of the game. But yes, there
have also been times when the some players of the team have indulged in
some really blistering brawls which are really disregardful for the
respect and the reputation of the game. When it comes to ego clashes on
the field, the players never back off in facing their fellow
counterparts who are also enclosed within the dimensions of the game.
And when it comes to IPL, the momentum and the aggression is surely
double because of the very limitations of the game. Yes, IPL has also
seen some serious and dashing fights between the reputed players, From
sledging to Verbal fight and from cursing to hitting, IPL has seen
everything. Crictracker brings to you Top 5 fights in the history of
IPL. 5. Munaf Patel vs Amit Mishra, IPL 2011
Mumbai Indians bowler Munaf Patel got into a strong altercation with
Deccan Chargers batsmen Amit Mishra when both the teams played at
Wankhede. The last over of the match was the main highlight of the
brawl. Munaf got hit for a six on the first ball of the last over. And
then on the third ball, he got smashed for a four on which he lost his
cool and went down to melee with Amit Mishra, the batsmen. The two ended
up in some verbal shouts. The fifth delivery saw the two players almost
throwing blows at each other. Munaf Patel also did threaten Amit Mishra
to throw the ball towards him. The Umpires and Sachin Tendulkar finally
resolved the matter. 4. Kieron Pollard vs Shane Watson, IPL 2013
Kieron Pollard came down with Shane Watson on a perplexed dispute. As
soon as Shane Watson came down to bat, Kieron Pollard mockingly laughed
in Shane Watson’s ears and made him feel insulted. Watson did not get
the real motive of Pollard’s intentional act and he felt disturbed. Very
soon both were on some extremely rude and undesirable verbal fight
which was in controversies for quite a long time. Umpires and Captain
Rohit Sharma settled things down. 3. Virat Kohli vs Gautam Gambhir, IPL 2013
Kolkata Knight Rider’s skipper Gautam Gambhir and Royal Challenger’s
Bangalore skipper Virat Kohli ended up in a verbal dual after the
latter’s remark on the opponent’s team. Both the players are aggressive
in nature. The incident happened when Kohli got caught while trying for a
huge six. Getting the wicket, KKR grouped to celebrate. Virat walked
towards the group and made some extremely derogatory remarks. Captain
Gambhir spurted off in anger and walked towards Kohli to confront him.
That was an unusual scene because both of them have been friends for a
long time. After that incident, the press got into action and the
controversy lasted for a long time. 2. Kieron Pollard vs Mitchell Starc, IPL 2014
This is the most recent brawl in the IPL history. It happened on 6th
May 2014 when Mumbai Indians were playing against Royal Challengers
Bangalore in Wankhede. Mitchell Starc bowled a short pitched delivery to
Kieron Pollard and the both exchanged some angry words. Pollard
signaled Starc to go and bowl. Starc came in to bowl his next delivery
on which Pollard pulled out and backed off to play the delivery. But the
Aussie deliberately bowled in the direction of Pollard’s body to which
the West Indian reacted by throwing his bat in the bowler’s direction.
The Umpire along with Virat Kohli and Chris Gayle came to settle things
down. 1. Harbhajan Singh vs S. Sreesanth, IPL 2008
The Harbhajan and Sreesanth spat is the most widely discussed and the
oldest incident in the IPL history. It is also one of the incidents in
the history of the game where the reputation of the game was polluted.
As reported, the Mumbai Indians spinner Harbhajan Singh in a widespread
anger slapped the Kings XI Punjab pacer S.Sressanth. Sreesanth made some
jovial statement at Harbhajan’s teams defeat and Harbhajan in the state
of agony hit Sreesanth hard. Although, there is no such tape that show
Harbhajan slapping Sreesanth but the only evidence left was Sreesanth’s
crying face which was displayed all over world. Later, the dispute got
solved by Harbhajan apologizing to Sreesanth.
Top 10 batsmen with most half centuries in IPL: The
Indian Premier League (IPL) is a store of batting powerhouses from all
over the world. The popularity and the richness of the tournament
attracts every international and domestic cricketer to be a part of it.
We have seen some unrealistic, unscalable performances from players, on
consistent basis. Among the most consistent batsmen are those who have
clubbed the most number of half-centuries in the IPL.
So here we bring to you the top 10 batsmen with most half-centuries
in IPL. (In case where batsmen have equal number of half-centuries fewer
number of matches required to score them have been ranked higher.) 10. Virat Kohli (RCB) 16:
Virat Kohli the young, dynamic and aggressive Royal Challengers
Bangalore skipper has undoubtedly been the most important player and
batsmen to the franchise. They have done well as a unit and under his
leadership; though RCB has been too close yet too far with the IPL
championship trophy. Virat Kohli has hit 16 half centuries for RCB in
the Indian Premier League 9. Virender Sehwag (DD, KXIP) 16:
Walk in, hit it out and walk back; this is the simple fundamental
behind Virender Sehwag’s game-play and what we know now as an iconic
style of opening batting. He doesn’t think much about the game but has a
very effective approach. Viru initially was the skipper, key player for
the Delhi Daredevils and now represents the KXIP; he has struck 16
fifties in his IPL journey.
8. David Warner (DD, SRH) 16:
David Destructive Warner, whichever team he plays for is always a key
to their success. He has the ability to put the bowlers not only off
the attack but to upset their rhythm and ensure no further challenge at
least in the particular game. Warner has played for DD and SRH in IPL
and has scored 16 half centuries so far.
7. Chris Gayle (KKR, RCB) 16:
We all know what this man is capable of, once Chris Gayle decides it
is his day and he has to go for it; such a Storm rises and strikes that
no Meteorological expert can predict and evaluate the damage. He holds
numerous records in the world of T20s and is not only the highest
individual run scorer but also has the most sixes in an innings among
others. Chris Gayle has 16 half-centuries to his name in IPL.
6. Shaun Marsh (KXIP) 16:
Shaun Marsh is a natural stroke maker, one can call him a ‘gem’
discovered by the Kings XI Punjab team and thus they have never dropped
him from their team since arrival. Marsh usually opens the innings and
is good enough to finish it as well being a good player against both
pace and spin. A consistent feature in the KXIP squad Marsh has 16 half
tons to his name in the IPL.
5. Jacques Kallis (RCB, KKR) 17:
If there is one person to be termed the ultimate all-rounder; the guy
who fits in all your requirements, is good enough to play any format of
the game, be it the longest or the shortest it has to be Jacques
Kallis. Kallis initially played for the Bangalore franchise and is now
associated with KKR in the IPL. He has scored 17 fifties in his IPL
career.
4. Shikhar Dhawan (DC, DD, MI, SRH) 18:
Shikhar Rowdy Dhawan, an opener who likes to express himself, with
the bat on most occasions while sometimes his words do follow it up. He
is a clean killer of the cricket ball, has his areas and zones defined
and whenever the bowlers enters it, absolutely pounces on them, that is
where Shikhar is so dangerous. He has hit 18 half tons in his IPL career
so far for Deccan Chargers, DD, MI and SRH.
3.Rohit Sharma (DC, MI) 22:
Rohit Hitman Sharma is what his fans like to refer the Indian opener
and Mumbai Indians skipper like. His journey is a story, we can all
accept and always knew Rohit has the talent but has rarely been able to
justify it with consistent performance. Though Rohit Sharma has been in
good nick off late, we will have to wait for the season to start and him
to play, only then will it be possible to assess the Mumbai lad. He has
by now scored 22 half-centuries in his IPL life.
2. Suresh Raina (CSK) 23:
Suresh Raina’s IPL career is not only as old as the tournament but
has also played the most number of matches by a player in the league. He
is also the overall leading run scorer of the Indian domestic league.
Raina has right from the beginning been a part of the CSK team and
continues to be a vital cog in their success. The splendid left hander
has hit 23 which is also the most number of half centuries by a player
in IPL.
1. Gautam Gambhir (DD, KKR) 24:
Gautam Gambhir the former Delhi Daredevils and ruling Kolkata Knight
Riders champions skipper is a classic left hand batsman. He likes to use
the pace of the quicker bowlers early on and uses his feet extremely
well against the spinners. Gambhir knows all the shots in the book and
has the ability to shift gears at will. The KKR captain has scored 24
half-centuries in his IPL career thus far.
